Last Day in Bali - Beaching it

Danae and I spent our last day in Bali basically relaxing on the beach and hanging out by our pool.

The Beaches in Bali were beautiful. Although the Indian Ocean was not as warm or as clear as the Atlantic Ocean in South Florida, the waves were far and away better than anything Florida has to offer. In fact, the waves were awesome! Sometimes, they would reach 6 to 10 feet. I tried convincing Danae to learn to surf, because that is what Bali is known for. However, she was not having it. I ended up settling for a body board, and still had lots of fun. Danae was a little uneasy about the large waves, so she hung out on the beach while my body got pummeled by the waves. The force of the waves was very strong. There were a couple of instances where the waves pulled me out pretty far from the beach. I was still on my board all the while and was never in any danger or felt like I was not in control; I was just in deep water.

We parked our scooters on the Beach

The Junk Peddlers
Meanwhile, on the beach, Danae was harassed by locals peddling junk and offering beach manicures and massages. Danae said one of the ladies told her that she (Danae) had bad nails and needed a manicure. Danae asked one lady how much a massage cost, and the lady would not go away after that. The lady told Danae that since she inquired about the price, she obviously wanted a massage. Danae begrudgingly accepted (it was still less than 5 dollars).

The tide was going out in the afternoon, and the waves got a lot smaller. Think Atlantic Ocean small. We decided to head to our swimming pool in our hotel. Our hotel pool had a pretty neat setup. It was on the 6th floor, and had a decent view of Bali.

After swimming, we decided to head to Kuta for dinner and a couple of drinks. We did not stay out long because we had a 6AM international flight, which meant we had to get up at 3:30AM so we could get to the airport 2 hours prior.

Australian Couple We Met
After dinner, we met a nice couple from Australia. It was funny story of how we met them. Danae noticed a girl singing along to some American pop song from the 80’s. Danae bet me that they were Americans. At this point in our vacation, we had only come across about 4 Americans, but we’ve encountered literally hundreds of Australians. Danae went over and started talking to them. I was right, they were Australians. We hung out with them for a couple of hours. They lived in the outback. I learned from the guy that they cannot swim in the ocean in Northern Australian because the salt water crocodiles were present and dangerous. He also told me that he wrestled crocs. I told him he was full of crap. We said our goodbyes, and headed home to grab 4 hours of sleep.
