I assumed numerous times throughout our 36 hour trip to Thailand, that when we finally got to our hotel room, we would crash! I felt like crashing. We got to the hotel about 11PM local time (it would have been an hour sooner had our taxi driver knew where in the hell he was going), but we did not crash. Its Danae and me, and we like to party.
We decided to go out and have some real Thai food and drinks. Danae wasn't feeling that adventurous yet (she assured me this would not last) so we went to a Western looking restaurant/bar rather. We had a feast: 2 entrees, a big bowl of soup, and about 5 drinks each. Our bill was only $50! And this is expensive by Thai standard, but very cheap by Miami standards. The same food and drinks at our favorite Thai restaurant in Miami (Eddie Hills Thai and Sushi in Hallandale Beach) would have been well over a $100.

The bars here close at 2AM, which is a littler earlier than we are used to. But we were tired at this point anyways. It came time to pay the bill, and we hadn't figured out the tipping here yet. I asked our waitress, "Polk," how much she normally tips when she gets good service at a restaurant. I asked her for a percentage, but she gave me a baht amount. She said like 50-100 baht (1-3.5 dollars). Our bill was 1,500 baht and I had 2 - 1,000 baht bills on me. Being a little tipsy, and feeling a little Frank Sinatra-isk, I said, how about 500 baht tip for you! I didn't really do the math in my head, but it ended up being about $16 dollars. Her face lit up. I saw her walk away and open the bill holder triumphantly to her fellow co-worker.
