Our Hotel Room

Our Room
Our hotel is called Park Plaza. Originally, we picked it because of its proximity to the metro and downtown area. It is probably the cheapest and lowest acclaimed hotel we have planned for our trip. Having said that, when we got here, it exceeded all of our expectations. It makes us very optimistic for our remaining "nicer" hotels.

View from our Hotel
The room is very modern and well kept. It has a king sized bed that is very comfortable. There is a wall mounted flat screen television with all the Thai television you can handle. Or, better described, lots of US shows dubbed in Thai.  The view is so-so (see pic). There is swimming pool on the roof (16th floor), but this wasn't that impressive to us since our condo has the same feature. The pool was still nice no less. Another observation: Thailand shares the US's 13th floor superstition. In other words, the numbered floors go from 12 to 14, completely bypassing the 13th floor.

Keycard Light System
There are two unique aspects to this room that make it unlike any other hotel we have ever stayed in. First, the operation of the lights. You have to slid your room key into a key slot to make the lights come on (see picture). There are buttons to turn off/on the bathroom and entry hall lights, but otherwise, you can only turn the lights off by removing the card. There is also "do not disturb" button rather than a hangy card to let the maid know not to come in (they are years ahead of us!). The a/c is also connected to this keycard system. The consequences of this setup is that the only way to use the a/c is to have lights on. Last night before going to bed, we had to choose between having bright lights and the a/c on, or having a dark room with no a/c. Considering the Bangkok heat (as opposed to the Miami Heat!), it was an easy choice. Plus, we were completely jet lagged, so it was not hard falling asleep.

The second unique feature of the room is the fact that wall separating the bathroom from the bedroom is glass. You can watch your significant other shower. Danae had dinner and a show last night! There is a pull-down curtain for the more prudish folks haha.
